Sonoma in the Spring

April 9, 2014 by Claudia Long 3 Comments

It’s been just about the driest winter in recorded history here in California, but the recent rains have brought forth the greenery yet again. Of course, Sonoma gets more rain than we do closer to San Francisco, so it had greened-up, if you will, a bit anyway, but a weekend trip out to wine country gave us a treat of flowers and verdant hills and valleys.

We hiked along the Overlook trail, above the town, climbing higher and higher into the hills, until we could look down onto the entire Sonoma valley, 13 miles long and 3 miles wide. We could even see San Francisco way off in the distance, though my cell phone camera couldn’t quite pick it up.

As we walked through the square in Sonoma we looked over at City Hall. In The Harlot’s Pen, that’s where Sharon ultimately stands trial. It wasn’t much different in 1920.

And I couldn’t resist the plaque for Simmons Pharmacy. Doc Simmons plays a critical role in the story, doesn’t he? 🙂

So come out and stroll in the wine country. The air is fresh, the flowers are blooming, the wine flows better than water, and you can grab a little history as you walk.

For some reason only one picture showed up, so I will have to repost the other three pictures–they’re so pretty!
